Hello.

There are stories we tell to one-up each other, and then there is this blog. Read wondrous tales of strange creatures, explore the depths of human indecency, and hopefully laugh a little as we find out what could possibly make people do what they do.

Where Do We Go From Here? (Part 2)

Where Do We Go From Here? (Part 2)

2022 EDIT: Almost none of the things I list in this 2018 story actually happened. If anything, I doubled down on the existing content.

I created this blog to write about catching fake IDs, share unpublished golf stories, share pictures of far-off places, and to tell fantastic stories. I achieved all of it. And now it’s time to move forward.

Writing stories about catching fake IDs, it turns out, is less thrilling the more successful you become at identifying them. I used to be able to crack the case. Work the numbers. Find the clues. Deduce the mystery.

Now I can take one look and the entire interaction is complete.

No fights. No verbal struggles.

No stories to tell.

Writing stories about golf was fun. I thought I was going to be a lead golf writer and play the most famous public courses in Michigan.

And then plans changed and I was going to be writing about the sights and sounds of the most famous public golf courses in Michigan.

And then plans changed and I was only going to see five of the most famous public golf courses in Michigan. In late September and early October. When the grounds are aerated and soggy. When the leaves are turning. Beautiful, sure. Although in a mournful sense.

And then the magazine folded and I was left with five finished stories, yet without a finished product to display.

Curating 300 pictures of a vacation to Ireland and Spain (and Canada!) was fun. At the very least this site will be a testament to amateur, color-highlighting photography.

I also had a page idea of short stories. The stories, however, weren’t new. I wrote them in creative classes throughout high school and college.

I was going to edit them, flesh them out. One problem.

Most, if not all, were God-awful.

Writing is a skill that improves with time. Wisdom and knowledge are more important than intelligence. I used to write nothing but dialogue. Just back and forth commentary on something you couldn’t see in the space between your ears. I was missing the time it took to experience what was around the world and instead attempting to translate daydreams into reality without any meat on the bone.

So, what does this mean, moving forward?

This site will undergo some changes.

New pages. New stories.

Prompt challenges.

Guest articles.

A creative flood needed to break the monotony of listening to teenagers argue and complain.

Big Bad Jon is a good blog.

Stay tuned while we kick things up a notch.
